Greetings from Bud Blankenship,

For those of you who do not know me I am the Central District VP for the American Brown Leghorn Club. I am also a member of the Dayton Fancy Feather Club. I have been promoting very hard the past three years to make the Dayton show the new "Hotbed" for Leghorns. The past two years we have had over 70 and 80 Brown Leghorns alone. Last year, including all the varieties of Leghorns, open and junior show, we had a grand total of 127 Leghorns. That's a pretty good showing of Leghorns for a spring show!

I would like to personally invite you to show your Leghorns and beat that record. Once again we will be hosting the 3rd Annual Rose Comb Challenge. Something new this year is the Paul Gilroy Award. It must be won 5 times by one exhibitor before it is won. The award will retro back to the first Rose Comb challenge with Bud Blankenship winning the first year with a RC Dark Brown Large fowl hen. And the second year was won by Junior Member Michael Schlumbohlm with a RC Light bantam pullet. WHO WILL WIN THIS YEAR?? The awards are listed on the calendar page! The March Poultry Press will carry our show catalog for the Dayton show. The Dayton Show has a great junior show and showmanship class. So come join in on the great competition and hospitality at Dayton. I would like to encourage any junior exhibitors to show their RC Brown Leghorns in the open show as that is where all the awards for the RC varieties are. As you can see it paid off for Michael! We are also planning on offering some hatching eggs and one year free membership to the ABLC for a few lucky juniors. All Junior exhibitors are eligible for the drawing. Mark your calendars and plan to be with us on April 26 & 27at Greenville, Ohio. Hope to see you!

Hello Brown Leghorn Club Members

I would like to bring you up to date on the happenings of your club. Over the past few months a number of changes have taken place with your officers. Miki Schrider was our fill in secretary/ treasurer for Dennis Pearce. Do to his illness he will be unable to return to this position. All our hopes and prayers go out to Dennis for a speedy and complete recovery. Bud Blankenship has stepped forward and now will take over the office. Thank you Miki for the wonderful job.

With Bud in his new office, the position of Central V.P. became vacated. Mary Aho has agreed to fill in this important office. I want to thank Bud for the great job he did while Central V.P. and Mary for accepting the office.

Our newsletter editor, Laura Haggerty, can no longer fulfill her duties due to work restraints. Bud stepped in and will be getting a newsletter out in the near future. Thank you Laura for a great job. Bud you are my hero!

Your president is somewhat beat up from playing musical officers. However, I am extremely excited about the position of our club and the officers now in place. Do to logistics, it will take Bud awhile to gear up for our next newsletter. In the mean time I urge all our V.P.’s to get information to Bud of the happenings in your Districts. We would like to include them in our next Newsletter.

Our National is shaping up to be one that will be remembered. It will take place at the Columbus show in November. I have talked with many Brown Leghorn breeders this spring and they are really gunning for this one. All the hatches have been great and the quality of the birds I seen exhibited this spring will make for a great National. I think there will be at least 300 Browns with some very large classes.

That is all for now and I hope to see you all in Columbus.
